the new Macramé Brass EP!
https://geraldbailey.bandcamp.com/album/macram-brass

Shortly before the pandemic Macramé Brass met up at Experimental Sound Studio to record one short set’s worth of music. The idea was to simply capture some of the sounds and ideas that we developed during our monthly residencies at Dorian’s Jazz Club and The California Clipper in Chicago.
Meditation (January 26, 2020) is group improvisation recorded shortly after hearing of the fatal helicopter crash that took the lives of Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna Bryant.
Mezcal Caravan is an adaptation of a lofi beat instrumental by Charles Mantis that was arranged for the band.
Larb was written to fit the vibe at Dorian’s.
Macramé is a lofi beat instrumental that is sometimes used as an interlude during live performances.

Macrame Brass Live at California Clipper Friday July 5
Macrame Brass weaves jazz, soul and Latin music into a brass band design. A celebration of the music of Chicago with a New Orleans flavor. This project features hard working creatives in a street band setting. Acoustic music with a hint of dub, beats and synths.
Dorian’s Through the Record Shop Saturday March 9
Join my dubbed out brass band for a tribute to jazz of Chicago and New Orleans.
Black Bear Combo at the White House
This past week I had the pleasure of joining the Chicago based Balkan brass band entertaining military families for a Halloween party at the White House. The band debuted a new orange and black costume designed by saxophonist Doug Abram.
Balkan Invasion of Wicker Park
For close to a year and a half DJ Roma Soul and Black Bear Combo have played to a packed house downstairs at Subterranean on the third Friday of the month in Chicago. This has grown to be one of the more successful nights I’ve seen featuring an instrumental act since I moved to Chicago nearly 7 years ago. The crowd demands high energy. I look forward to it every month and I hope that you will join us this Friday February 17th 2012. More about the night in the Chicago Tribune.
